I’m so happy I clicked to read more. So much of what you said resonated with me especially the parts about anything worth doing is worth doing any time of the year and feel free to start on any regular degular day/month. I don’t think I’ll ever forget those words. Thank you x
Aww wow Sakina, thanks for taking the time to say so. I appreciate the encouragement, and I'm glad this piece resonated with you. It's so hard to just 'make a start' on a goal when we know it's not going to be perfect, like the 'clean slate' of a new week, month or year. But I'm always reminded how it's a whole lot easier to take little steps towards something than giant leaps. I hope you have a wonderful week ahead! x
I'm with ya. Though circumstances are quite different - Bought our first house after several moves! Surviving with 3 boys four and under! It seems I have hardly able to catch my breath on a daily or weekly basis as it is. I have been looking at a couple Rule Of Life workshops longingly, but one of the creators said something in the intro video about "maybe it not being the right time if you're in some huge life changes, fluctuations, adjustments." And I was thinking that's been my whole last 6 years. lol
That being said, I recently read someone point out that there's a difference in how we might be motivated toward change. Some of us are more *Vision and Big Picture* ("what") people and some of us are naturally more *Practical Action Steps" ("how") people. Or it might be a time of life where one is more the focus. We need both to work in tandem in a wholistic way toward growth.
BUT that gave some permission for me to be like "You know what, I'm truly in a more chaotic Vision season right now, and it's fine if the How aspects are more slow-going." Personal seasons don't always line up with the Fresh Start Times. :)
Oh wow, congratulations on buying a house, that's a huge achievement and so exciting!
I did try going through one of John Mark Comer's (free) Rule of Life workbooks a few years ago when I had more time and space to myself, and I did enjoy that. These days, I like to squeeze in a quick 'life right now' mindmap and just jot down a crazy mess of everything happening or that I'm aiming for in each sphere of life. I probably only do one once a year though. Hahaha good point, probably wise to heed that advice and wait a bit!
Oooh that's really interesting, I hadn't heard it articulated like that before. I'm not actually sure which one I am, but so true that you'd need both to effectively grow and make life changes.
Ahaha I love that, we need to give ourselves "permission" to be shaped by the seasons as much as we want to be in control of them. And what a great line — "Personal seasons don't always line up with the Fresh Start Times". So good.
Thank you for taking the time to say hello and share your thoughts, it really means a lot!
Of this so much ❤️ I am alot worn out and do not have my "word of the year" or "ins and out list" or anything of those things. I am trying to let myself be in “winter” right now a season of resting as much as possible when life has me spread very thin.. I’ve read winter is not the season for pushing our bodies stronger harder faster or starting new things. Thank you for sharing 🫶🏼 cheers too your new adventure!!
Aww Hannah, it's nice to know I'm not the only one! Yes, absolutely, what a great point. I love how the more you observe nature and its seasons, the more we learn about the rhythms our bodies need to rest and recalibrate, and that those seasons are just as important as the ones where you see a lot of tangible 'growth'.
Here in Australia we're currently in the middle of summer, so I wonder if our southern hemisphere mindset is perhaps a little different as we begin each New Year — especially since our school year also starts in January and ends in December. There's not as much of that natural "it's cold outside so it feels right to slow down and rest indoors". Interesting to think about!
Thank you for taking the time to say hello and share your thoughts, I'm grateful.

I am happy to support other Christian writers. Have a blessed week, sister.
